About the hope clinic

The Hope Medical Dental Clinic was founded in 2003 by Dr. Vincenta G. Marquez and a group of physicians involved with the Filipino Medical Association. After an annual medical mission trip abroad, Dr. Marquez wondered, "Why not do the same thing here in Delaware?" She partnered with Drs. Venerando J. Maximo, Raphael Zaragoza, Jose Paminuan, and Basilio Bautista to find the organization's first home at the Modern Maturity Center (MMC).

MMC generously provided a small storage space which was converted into a reception area and exam rooms divided by a curtain to create separate spaces. Patients received free medications that were mostly collected as donations from local physicians and pharmaceutical representatives.

In 2007, Dr. Thomas Mercer joined the Hope Medical Dental Clinic to provide dental services. Under this direction, the dental clinic expanded to provide more than just basic dental services. 

​

In 2005 after a result of a joint fundraising campaign, MMC opened a Medical Arts Building on its campus, which has been the home for the Hope Medical Dental Clinic ever since.

Today, the Hope Medical Dental Clinic honors its founders commitment to providing access to free quality medical and dental care to those who are uninsured and medically underserved. It is the only free medical and dental clinic in Delaware and we seek to serve people who are often forced to make difficult choices between paying for food, rent, and other basic necessities vs. their own healthcare. We strive to fill critical gaps in healthcare and improve the quality of life and alleviate the strain on community resources.

The Hope Medical Dental Clinic has limited staff and all of the medical and dental professionals are volunteers who provide care in a private, community-based clinic.

The future of the Hope Medical Dental Clinic is bright! With support of our donors and volunteers, we are excited to welcome the next chapter of the Clinic in order to serve generations to come.
